Archipelago hosts bed making battle: A competition for 
40 housekeepers to enhance housekeeping skills

The hospitality industry continues to face challenges in securing skilled labor, particularly in housekeeping. As part of its commitment to improving human resources in this sector, Archipelago hosted the Archipelago Bed Making Battle, a competition that brought together 40 housekeepers from various Archipelago hotel units across East Java and Central Java. The contestants compete in speed and precision and take a bed in just three minutes. 

More than just a skills showcase, this event reflects Archipelago’s dedication to training highly skilled housekeeping professionals who are ready to excel in the hospitality industry. The competition emphasized efficiency, attention to detail, and adherence to Archipelago’s standards while fostering a sense of teamwork and professionalism among housekeeping staff.

In addition to the competition, the event welcomed students and faculty from 12 hospitality vocational schools (SMK), media representatives, and special guests. They participated in an inspiring talk show featuring Bapak Bintang Adhipradipta, General Manager of favehotel Pamanukan, and Bapak Billy Christian, General Manager of Hotel Neo Dipatiukur, moderated by Ibu Sari Kusumaningrum, Senior Director of Corporate Communications & PR at Archipelago. The speakers shared their career journeys in the hospitality industry, offering motivation and insights to attendees.

Furthermore, a Sharing Session: Level Up Skill & Technology to Improve Productivity was presented by PT. XC Cleanindo (I Clean), PT Exinergy Indonesia, and PT. Zees, highlighting the latest technological innovations in housekeeping to help participants enhance efficiency in their work.

During the competition, each participant had three minutes to showcase their bed-making skills, judged based on the following criteria:

  • Grooming Standards – Personal appearance, hygiene, and uniform attributes.

  • Neatness and Aesthetics – The overall presentation of the bed after completion.

  • Accuracy and Precision – The alignment of sheets, pillows, and tuck-ins' tightness.

  • Speed and Efficiency – Completing the task swiftly without compromising quality.

  • Overall Presentation – The readiness of the bed to welcome guests.

  • Compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.

The judging panel for the competition included:

  • Hamidah Bachri (Corporate Executive Housekeeper Archipelago)

  • Sari Kusumaningrum (Senior Director of Corporate Communications & PR Archipelago)

  • Bintang  Adhipradipta (General Manager, favehotel Pamanukan)

  • Billy Christian (General Manager, Hotel Neo Dipatiukur)

The winners of the Bed Making Battle 2025 received trophies, cash prizes, hotel vouchers, and exclusive goodie bags from sponsors, including King Koil, PT Exinergy Indonesia, Lady Americana USA, PT Yulia Mega Hasta, Spring Air, I Clean, PT Surya Barutama Mandiri, and Zees.

The winners of the Archipelago Bed Making Battle 2025 are:

  • Bed Making Campion: Diki Candra from Aston Inn Pandanaran Semarang

  • 2nd Winner: Lukman Arif  from Aston Mojokerto Hotel & Conference Center

  • 3rd Winner: Imam Arif from favehotel Solo Baru
